The Woman in Black synopsis:
As the story unfolds the young actor takes on the part of the young Arthur Kipps while the older Kipps plays the roles of the people he encounters along the way.
The framework of this thriller is unusual: a middle-aged lawyer, Arthur Kipps, hires a young actor to help him tell his family and friends a tale of his past that has long since haunted his dreams, hoping to purge himself of his horrible memories. It concerns the intense events that transpired when he traveled on business to a tiny, secluded town to attend the funeral of an elderly recluse and handle the documents of her estate. There he caught sight of the woman in black, the mere mention of whom terrifies the locals, and he finds himself transported into a powerfully frightening and ghostly world. He endures an increasingly horrifying and unremitting sequence of unexplained noises, chilling events, and hauntings, while the people of the town are more than reluctant to reveal any information of the dramatic happenings. His investigation is only met with pained and fearful reactions as he searches for the truth of the woman in black and the mysterious estate to which he has been assigned.
Please Note Before Requesting an Audition: Roles for The Woman in Black are unpaid. This is a non-equity production sponsored and produced by Tennessee Repertory Theatre.
ALSO, you must be available for all performance dates and the May rehearsal period to be considered for a role. Tennessee Rep is seeking only local actors, as no housing is provided.
Please bring a copy of your headshot and resume, and prepare a contemporary dramatic monologue to perform lasting no more than 2 minutes (No Shakespeare please).
Please Note: A British accent will be required for all characters in this play. However, any prepared monologue will NOT be expected to be performed with an accent.
