    Special Events Management Intern (application deadline August 3, 2011)

    The Audience Development Department at Tennessee Repertory Theatre encompasses all activities involving special events, education/outreach, marketing and sales, fundraising, and publicity. The Special Events Management Intern in this department is a full-time position, although a part-time position might be considered, depending on the qualities and goals of the candidate. The primary focus of this internship is to help organize and facilitate special events throughout the season, and to assist with volunteer management. If full-time internship is offered, the intern will also learn non-profit marketing and fundraising in a highly competitive arts community, and will have the opportunity to assist with education and outreach programming. Candidates must be highly organized and able to multi-task with excellent computer and writing skills required. Jobs in this department will be supervised by Audience Development Director.

    Opportunities, possible duties, and job requirements will include:

PRIMARY FOCUS (whether full or part time):
Special Events and Volunteer Management
  • Assist the Audience Development Director and Marketing Director in administration and implementation of a wide variety of Tennessee Rep special events, including fundraisers, advisory council and board events, friend-raising events, etc.
  • Work with staff, volunteers, and community leaders to produce five (5) fundraisers that involve promoting/publicizing tickets/tables through personal contacts, e-mails, and mailing of printed invitations; menus; solicitation/receiving/documenting of items for Silent Auctions; entertainment; volunteer management (including communication, assignments, documentation, and rewards) related to special events, education/outreach activities, and at performances; post-event recognition, etc.
Development/Fundraising (for full-time, SECONDARY for part-time)
  • Build strong relationships with donors and corporate sponsors
  • Donor solicitations, email communications, and donor database management
  • Government and foundation grant proposals
  • Cultivation event planning
  • Preparation for board of directors meetings
SECONDARY FOCUS (full-time only):
Education/Outreach
  • Development and production of education/outreach activities and promotional events
  • Assist with educational programming in high school and universities
  • Help set-up and work outreach events
  • Assist in developing educational material
Marketing/Publicity
  • Maintain Tennessee Rep’s social networking sites
  • Observe rehearsals and meetings with the artistic staff to develop ideas for effectively marketing productions on a modest budget
  • Collect and archive materials
  • Work closely with staff to develop new audiences
  • Maintain and create promotional relationships with other non-profit organizations, colleges and universities, target audiences, restaurants, and media outlets
  • Assist with press contacts, photo calls and video shoots
  • Coordinate press mailings, prepare press releases and calendar announcements
  • Other clerical and general duties as needed

 

Marketing Intern (application deadline August 3, 2011)

The Marketing Intern in this department is a full-time position, although a part-time position might be considered, depending on the qualities and goals of the candidate. The primary focus of this internship is to work closely with the Marketing Director on the execution of the season’s marketing initiatives in a highly competitive arts community, and to assist with education and outreach programming. If full-time internship is offered, the intern will also have the opportunity to assist with special events and learn non-profit fundraising skills. Candidates must be highly organized and able to multi-task with excellent computer and writing skills required. Jobs in this department will be supervised by Marketing Director.

Stage Management/Production Intern (position closed)

Internships in this department are for those interested in stage management or artistic areas (such as directing, acting, or dramaturgy) of production. Interns will have the opportunity to observe all aspects of the rehearsal process, and will contribute to the process as a member of the production staff as an assistant to the stage manager (or possibly for some Professional Internships, to the director). Interns will work with an Equity stage manager, become familiar with Equity regulations, and observe the day to day duties of a professional Stage Manager. They will observe a professional director and actors at work, and attend production meetings. All jobs in this department are supervised by the Artistic Director.

Internship duties may include:

  • With the right past experience/education, a Professional Intern might be assigned the job of Production Assistant (similar to Assistant Stage Manager)
  • Assisting the stage manager in preparation for rehearsals
  • Assisting in production paperwork
  • Attending and assisting with rehearsals
  • Organization and maintenance of rehearsal and performance props/costumes
  • Working production tech week
  • Working backstage during the run of a show at TPAC, in the Johnson or Polk Theaters
  • Assisting the director as needed
  • Research and general administrative tasks as needed
  • Additional technical production work as needed

 

Costume Production Intern (position closed)

Interns in this department will observe the daily operations of a professional costume shop, under the supervision of the Resident Costume Designer. Costume Production jobs may vary according to seasonal needs, but could include any of the following duties:

  • Shop maintenance
  • Costume rental assistance
  • Wardrobe management/maintenance
  • Stitching
  • Advanced costume construction
  • Craft work
  • Patternmaking
  • Draping
  • Wig, hair, and make up assistance
  • Design assistance
  • Costume shop management

 

Props Production Intern (position closed)

Interns in this department will primarily fulfill the duties of a props assistant, assisting the Head of Design (scenic/props) and Technical Director while observing the various workings of a professional scene shop and prop shop. Primary duty will be to work with the Head of Design to provide each production with its props needs. Additional duties will include general scene shop assistance under supervision of Technical Director, and assistance to Company Coordinator in managing props rentals.

Internship duties and requirements in this area include:

  • Props construction and/or painting
  • Props purchasing/borrowing/pulling
  • Assist Head of Design in set dressing
  • Technical run crew
  • Prop shop maintenance
  • Load-in/load-out crew
  • Must have some general scene shop experience
  • Strong familiarity with tools
  • Will be expected to lift and move heavy items
  • Should be able to work in a cooperative team environment

 

Technical Production Intern (position closed)

Interns in this department may fulfill the duties of a carpenter while observing the various workings of a professional scene shop and prop shop. Jobs will vary based on skill level and availability, and may be supervised by the Technical Director or the Head of Design.

Internship duties and requirements in this area include:

  • Scenic construction
  • Basic scenic painting
  • Props construction/assistance
  • Technical run crew
  • Scene shop/prop shop maintenance
  • Load-in/load-out crew
  • Must have some general scene shop experience
  • Strong familiarity with tools
  • Will be expected to lift and move heavy items
  • Should be able to work in a cooperative team environment
